Senior mother and mature daughter hugging at homeInvolving patients, carers and their families in making decisions about their care can lead to better outcomes and a better overall experience. We are looking at ways to involve patients in shaping future healthcare services.

We recognise and value the contribution of patients and carers. It is the role of the Lived Experience Service to co-ordinate and facilitate involvement, as well as ensuring that appropriate training and support of those involved is provided in order to maintain their own well being.

The perspective is underpinned by our Together Service User and Carer Strategy and its commitment to offer effective and meaningful involvement. We firmly believe that a collaborative relationship with patients, carers, third sector and communities is central to service design.

What is a Peer Supporter?

A Peer Supporter is someone who uses their own lived experience to support someone else. They have ‘been there’ and moved on in their lives so they embody recovery and messages of hope. Peer Supporters have found ways out of similar crises and so bring experience and confidence to support others and know how important it is to have someone who believes in you, takes you seriously and gives you time and space to find your feet.
