Getting here

Walkergate Park is a short walk from Walkergate Metro station. Visit the Nexus website for Metro timetables.

Turn left out of the station and head along Benfield Road. Walkergate Park is just past Walkergate Hospital, on the left-hand side, opposite Benfield School.

There are several bus services from Newcastle city centre that stop near to Walkergate Park. Visit the Nexus website for bus timetables.

Driving directions

A1 from the North: Exit the A1 at Gosforth A167. Turn off and follow the A167 towards the City Centre. Remain on A167 / A167(M) for approximately 1 mile, then bear left onto the A1058 for Tynemouth / East. Continue on A1058 for about 2 miles (straight on through Jesmond and past the Corner House pub). Exit left onto the slip road signposted for Walker / Walkergate Hospital / Benfield Road. Walkergate Park is about half a mile along Benfield Road, on the right. The entrance is opposite Benfield School and just before Walkergate Hospital.

A1(M) from the South: Just past Washington Services, exit on the slip road right onto A194(M) and follow signs for the Tyne Tunnel (tolls apply). Proceed through the Tunnel. At the roundabout immediately after the tunnel exit, head north on the A19 signposted for Morpeth. After 1 mile, take the first exit left at the roundabout, signposted for A1058 to Newcastle. After 2.5 miles pass under a railway bridge, and exit left onto the slip road signposted for Walker / Walkergate Hospital. At the top of the slip road, turn left onto Benfield Road. Walkergate Park is about half a mile along Benfield Road, on the right. The entrance is opposite Benfield School and just before Walkergate Hospital.

Parking

There are several car parks at Walkergate Park which staff, patients and visitors can use. 
Parking charges apply between 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday. The charges are:

0 – 60 minutes: £1.00
1 – 2 hours: £1.50
2 – 3 hours: £2.00
3 – 4 hours: £2.50
4+ hours: £8.00

Parking is free for CNTW staff if they have registered their vehicle. 

If you are a carer for someone receiving support from CNTW's services, you can get free parking at all our hospitals by registering for a Carer Card. LINK TO MORE INFO?

If you are visiting a patient during working hours and plan to stay longer than 3 – 4 hours, you will not have to pay the full £8 rate. Ask a member of staff to contact the car park management team and confirm you are visiting patients, and your charge will be capped at £2.50.

Electric Vehicle charging

There are 4 Electric Vehicle charging points at Walkergate Park located _________.

Charging costs 60p per kWh (approximately £16.80 for a four-hour charge). The chargers on our sites are be operated by Mer. You can pay by card or via the Mer app. Read more about EV charging with Mer.

Walkergate Park is one of the most advanced centres for neurorehabilitation and neuropsychiatry in Europe. The centre provides rehabilitation services on an inpatient, outpatient, day patient or community basis, from state-of-the-art facilities. It was the first centre of its kind in the UK to provide such integrated delivery of specialist services.

Walkergate Park provides care for people who experience the following effects of neurological disease:

  • Major physical disability affecting mobility, self-care and everyday activities
  • Disturbance of cognition or behaviour
  • Psychiatric sequelae of neurological disease

Walkergate Park is also home to some of our other specialist services, including the Northern Region Gender Dysphoria Service and the Personality Disorder Hub Service. Some of our community services are also based at Walkergate Park.
