Provider Collaboratives in the North East and North Cumbria

Established on 1st April 2021, Provider Collaboratives represent a new approach to commissioning services, aiming to improve care for people with mental health, learning disabilities, and autism across the region.

The North East and North Cumbria Mental Health, Learning Disability, and Autism Partnership brings together:

  • Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (CNTW)
  • Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust (TEWV)

These trusts work in collaboration with third sector organisations, acute services, and primary care networks. Their shared goal is to enhance services and drive positive change in how care is planned and delivered, ensuring it better meets the needs of individuals and communities.

Three Provider Collaboratives began in 2021. These were:

  • Children and young peoples mental health inpatient services
  • Adult low and medium secure services
  • Adult eating disorder services

In 2024, a new Provider Collaborative was formed.

  • Perinatal mental health

Our goals

  • To improve patient experiences and outcomes
  • To provide care closer to home
  • To reduce lengths of stay if an admission is necessary
  • To reduce unwarranted variation
  • To increase resilience and resource sharing
  • To be efficient and sustainable
  • To address system-wide challenges
  • To co-produce with system partners, patients and carers
  • To include the voice of lived experience in everything we do
