From Regent Centre Metro station, leave the exit and turn right out onto Great North Road. Walk along Great North Road until you come to Henry Street. Turn right up Henry Street and continue up to the traffic lights at the crossroads. Cross the road, and you have arrived at St. Nicholas Hospital.

Driving directions
A1 from the North: Take the Gosforth / Fawdon slip road and at the roundabout turn left. Continue along to the traffic lights. At the traffic lights turn right. Follow the road and go straight on at the mini roundabout and over the metro railway crossing. Go straight on at the next set of traffic lights, past the fire station on the left. When approaching the next set of traffic lights, move into the right hand lane and turn right into St. Nicholas Hospital.

Parking
There are several car parks at St. Nicholas Hospital which staff, patients and visitors can use.
Parking charges apply between 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday. The charges are:
0 – 60 minutes: £1.00
1 – 2 hours: £1.50
2 – 3 hours: £2.00
3 – 4 hours: £2.50
4+ hours: £8.00
Parking is free for CNTW staff if they have registered their vehicle.

If you are visiting a patient during working hours and plan to stay longer than 3 – 4 hours, you will not have to pay the full £8 rate. Ask a member of staff to contact the car park management team and confirm you are visiting patients, and your charge will be capped at £2.50.

There has been a hospital on this site since the 1860s. During the First World War it was a war hospital for wounded soldiers. In 1921, it became a hospital for mentally ill patients again. The NHS took over the hospital in 1948, when it was given the name St. Nicholas Hospital. The site is now made up of a mix of Victorian and newer buildings.
