This leaflet contains information about staying on Embleton Ward, an acute admissions ward based at St George's Park.

This leaflet provides you with information that you will find useful during your stay. If you are not sure about anything in this leaflet please ask a member of staff.

Embleton is an acute admission ward based at St George’s Park, Morpeth.

This service is for men who are over the age of 18 years who require an assessment and/or treatment of their mental health in hospital.

To help you get better by looking at your recovery and your lifestyle. The staff will help you to agree what you are working towards.

When you arrive, you will be welcomed by a member of the care team. They will explain to you what will happen during your stay, give you information and show you around the ward. After this, you will have time to settle in, meet the staff and the other patients who are on the ward and familiarise yourself with the ward environment.

The length of stay depends upon your personal needs. The care team will discuss this with you.

Activities will depend on what support you need for your recovery. Activities may include both social and recreational and will focus on developing new skills to manage your mental health.

You will also have access to the following services:

  • Activity Workers – do activities both on and off the ward. The type of activities depend on what you would like to do and are tailored to meet your needs. The activity workers also offer 1:1 sessions.
  • Psychology – this is dependent on your need at the time of admission.
  • Exercise Therapy – once leave off the ward is agreed with you and the team, you can have an assessment with the exercise therapy department if you would like one. Exercise therapy offer gym and other exercise and sport groups.
  • Art Therapy – Depending on your needs, the ward staff could refer you to Art Therapy.
  • Occupational Therapy – help with individual or group activities and daily living skills
  • Physiotherapy – assist with any mobility or movement problems or by providing access to gym facilities

Staff can arrange an interpreter if you need one.

Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS)
PALS provide confidential advice and support, helping you to sort out any concerns that you may have about any aspect of your or your loved ones care.

We act independently when handling patient and family concerns, liaising with staff, managers and, where appropriate, relevant organisations, to negotiate prompt solutions. If necessary, we can also refer patients and families to specific local or national-based support agencies.
