Kinnersley is an inpatient rehabilitation service based at St George’s Park in Morpeth. It is a 23 bedded mixed gender unit that is comprised of two-storey houses, bungalows and single bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms based in a core ward environment.

This leaflet is to provide you with information that you will find useful during your stay on Kinnersley ward. If you are not sure about anything in this leaflet, please ask a member of staff.

The service is for anyone over the age of 18 years who requires a period of rehabilitation in hospital. Rehabilitation is about providing people with the care and support to enable their recovery and allow them to achieve their own independence.

To help you get better and support your long-term recovery and wellbeing.

You will work with a wide range of professionals who will take your wishes into account and help you achieve the recovery goals you’re working toward.

When you arrive you will be welcomed by a member of the care team. They will explain what will happen during your stay and give you information, including who your named nurse will be. You will have time to settle in and have a look around your environment.

The length of stay depends upon your individual and personal needs. You will have opportunities to discuss this with the care team.

Our activities and interventions are matched according to your individual needs. We encourage you and your family and carers to be as involved as possible in the planning and reviewing of care and treatment.

Activities may include both social and recreational and will focus on developing new skills to manage your mental health.

We will support you with:

  • daily living skills
  • developing social skills and interests
  • improving self-esteem and self confidence
  • maintaining contact with family and significant others
  • joining education and vocational programmes
  • finding accommodation

Staff can arrange an interpreter if you need one.

Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS)
PALS provide confidential advice and support, helping you to sort out any concerns that you may have about any aspect of your or your loved ones care.

We act independently when handling patient and family concerns, liaising with staff, managers and, where appropriate, relevant organisations, to negotiate prompt solutions. If necessary, we can also refer patients and families to specific local or national-based support agencies.
