Beckfield is a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) based at Hopewood Park in Sunderland. A Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is a type of psychiatric inpatient ward. These wards are always locked; the entry and exit is controlled by the nursing staff. Beckfield has 14 beds providing assessment and treatment by a multi disciplinary team.
Who is Beckfield for?
The service is for men and women over the age of 18 years detained under The Mental Health Act (1983) who are experiencing a relapse or crisis and require a period of intensive secure care until they can return to an open inpatient unit.
